An official in the government said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will give the required skills to 500 ex-militants in agriculture and aquaculture under the amnesty programme.


This was made known by the special adviser to President Buhari on Niger Delta, Paul Boro to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) briefly after he paid a visit to Bio-resources Development Centre (BIODEC) in Odi area of Bayelsa.
Boro said the prospective farmers were picked from Akwa-Ibom, Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers states respectively

Niger Delta Avengers disarmament
Buhari’s aide on Niger Delta matters stated that the programme will lead to employment and money for the ex-militants, basically the present time that Nigeria needed diversification of the economy.

Boro said 18 other former gunmen have been trained in aquaculture under the programme

The special adviser who likewise is the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, stated that he went round the centre to inspect the progress of staff and livestock in the centre.

“The amnesty office is committed to training youths to become productive in the area of agriculture and aquaculture.

“We will encourage them to plan their future, study and appreciate the value of knowledge in the modern society,”the former military man stated.

Brigadier General Boro (rtd) informed that loans would be given to the beneficiaries in order to help them to become self-employed after the programme.
On Saturday, August 20, rumours emanated in the media that the federal government is investigating former president Goodluck Jonathanover his alleged complicity in the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers.
