Nigerian female runner grabbed a silver medal after the IOC has disqualified sprinter Yulia Chermoshanskaya for doping at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Russian athlete was stripped of a gold medal in the women’s 4×100-meter relay after her samples tested positive for stanozolol and turinabol — drugs banned froms the Olympics.

According to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rules, Chermoshanskaya’s team-mates were also retroactively disqualified.

That means Belgium will be upgraded to the relay gold, with Nigerian team (Franca Idoko, Gloria Kemasuode, Halimat Ismaila, Oludamola Osayomi) moving up to silver and Brazil to bronze.

Recall that in 2008 Nigeria won 4 medals including 1 silver and 3 bronze, including the men’s soccer, taekwondo (men’s over 80kg), track and field (women’s 4x100m relay) and women’s long jump.

The IOC has reanalysed more than 1000 doping samples from the 2008 Beijing Games and 2012 London Olympics. A total of 98 sportmen and sportswomen were caught cheating.
